Avoiding Back Pain Resources

Resources

  • Herniated Disk Treatment
Treatments for a herniated disk, diagnosis of a herniated disk, and surgery for a herniated. All of the topics are discussed here.
  • Spinal Decompression
The process of spinal decompression can work for many people, but it is the practitioners responsibility to make sure that you are a qualified candidate.
  • Info on Back Pain
Information about back pain and how it can either develop as a result of traumatic injury, or slowly over the courses of years.
  • Lower Back Pain
Detailed information about lower back pain and the ways that it can be treated or corrected.
  • Painful Back Conditions
Commonly diagnosed painful back conditions for you to be aware of so that you can avoid a lifetime of pain and suffering.
  • Treatments

  • Foraminotomy
Foraminotomy is a medical operation used to relieve pressure on nerves that are being compressed by the intervertebral foramen, the space in the vertebra where a nerve root exits the spinal canal.
  •
  • Laminotomy
A laminotomy is a surgical procedure that is used to relieve pressure off the spinal canal for the exiting nerve root and spinal cord, increasing the amount of space available for the neural tissue and thus releasing the nerve(s).
  •
  • Percutaneous Endoscopic Discectomy
Percutaneous Discectomy is the surgical removal of herniated disc/bulging disc material that presses on a nerve root or the spinal cord.
  •
  • Facet Thermal Ablation
A Facet Thermal Ablation is a procedure very similar to a root canal a dentist performs. The surgeon uses a laser to clean the facet joint and deaden the nerve that innervates the joint and causes painful symptoms.
  •
  • Spinal Fusion Alternative
When you fuse an area of the spine you lose mobility in that particular region. The spine is very mobile and fusing vertebrae together causes extreme wear and tear on the vertebrae (and discs) above and below the area of the fusion because they are trying to compensate for the area that is now immobile.

    Symptoms

  • Shoulder Pain
A pinched nerve in the neck will often provide symptoms of shoulder pain along with tingling and numbness in the arms
  •
  • Back pain
Although it sounds obvious enough, some conditions such as arthritis in the spine will produce symptoms of back pain in the area of the affected facet joint.
  •
  • Leg pain
A majority of lumbar back conditions will cause symptoms of leg pain to be felt.
  •
  • Muscular Weakness
If a nerve is pinched for to long and the flow of nutrients and blood is "cut off" from a muscle, it will weaken over time.
  •
  • Numbness
Often when a back condition impinges a nerve, numbness and tingling can be felt in the extremities.
  •

    Causes

  • Traumatic Injury
One of the more common causes of a cervical disc herniation is a traumatic injury, such as whiplash from a car accident.
  •
  • Age
There are many contributing factors to the development of spinal conditions. With out a doubt one of the most common factors for the development of any condition is age. As we age we repeatedly place strains and stresses on key pieces of the spine contributing to many painful back conditions.
  •
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
Degenrative disc disease is a common problem that occurs as we age contributing to a multitude of spinal conditions.
